3 Most Common Low HR Training Mistakes…

By November 12, 2024December 23rd, 2024No Comments

You can see BIG improvements in your running and health with Low Heart Rate Training, but there are some common pitfalls to avoid…

So today, I want to share the 3 common mistakes and simple ways to avoid them:

(this is NOT just limited to beginners, I’ve seen even experienced runners make these mistakes)

1. Going Too Fast on Easy Days

I get it — it feels counterintuitive to slow down!

Here’s the truth though:

I’ve seen a ton of PB Program members start off by pushing too hard on their easy days, thinking it’ll speed up progress… But it never does.

Trust me, keeping those runs truly easy lets your body adapt better and recover faster. And over time, you’ll find yourself running faster at the same heart rate without the extra stress.

2. Ignoring Sleep and Recovery

If there’s one thing that amplifies training, it’s quality sleep.

Sleeping is training, let that sink in for a minute.

Recovery days, good rest, and managing life’s stress aren’t just “extras” — they’re essentials.

Give your body the time it needs to repair and grow stronger, even if it means scaling back when life gets hectic.

3. Skipping Strength and Mobility Work

Low Heart Rate Training is incredible for endurance, but to be a well-rounded athlete, strength and mobility are important as well.

Add a few bodyweight exercises, stretching routines, or even strength training each week. This can make a big difference in injury prevention and overall running form.

As I said before, even seasoned runners stumble here… so if you’ve been making any of these mistakes, don’t worry.

Yesterday I recorded a new podcast conversation with Dr. Rangan Chatterjee about habits and routines. One key message is to focus on small adjustments, and you’ll see your training improve gradually over time.

Whenever in doubt, think long term vs short term here.

Have fun out there on your runs!

P.S. These are just a few of the tweaks that can make a huge difference over time. The PB Program – our community of hundreds of members around the world – dives deep into strategies like these and supports each other in making real, lasting progress.
