After 15+ years of running, 50+ marathons and ultras, and additional training that now includes more strength work, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and pickleball, the biggest challenge at the age of 43 isn’t motivation. It’s recovery.
For a long time, I accepted the low-grade Achilles tightness, the calf sensitivity, the sore shoulders. I figured it was just the price of being active.
I’ve tried a lot of recovery tools over the years and stayed skeptical of most of them.
A few months ago I started using the Kineon MOVE+, a wearable red light and near-infrared laser therapy device.
Within about a week of consistent use, the tightness I’d been managing in my calves and Achilles quietly disappeared. I stopped thinking about it. That’s not something I say lightly.
In my latest video I cover the full story, but here’s what caught my attention on the science side. There are more than 6,000 published studies on red light and near-infrared light therapy. The clinical numbers are hard to ignore:
- Meniscus tear patients: 65% reduction in pain over 4 weeks, versus 22% in the placebo group
- Rotator cuff surgery recovery: 78% greater improvement versus the sham group over 6 months
- Hip surgery patients: 82% greater pain reduction than placebo
- Back pain: 91% reduction after just 10 sessions, while the control group’s pain actually got worse
- A single session reduces prostaglandin E2, one of the body’s main inflammatory pain signals, by 27%
The technology is called photobiomodulation. Specific wavelengths of light are absorbed by the mitochondria in your cells, supporting cellular repair, circulation, and your body’s natural healing response.
The near-infrared wavelength penetrates deeper into joints, tendons, and connective tissue, exactly where most running injuries live.

One more thing, Kineon is currently running a 4th of July sale with a steep discount on the MOVE+ for a few days only. It also comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee and qualifies for HSA/FSA spending.
My family and several members in our PB Running Coaching Program have positive experiences with Red Light Therapy and Kineon as well.
