What advice do many of my ExtraMilest Podcast guests have in common? Dr. Phil Maffetone, Eliud Kipchoge, Sally McRae, Kilian Jornet and many others often talk about the importance of enjoying your training, for consistency and longevity in the sport.
Last week we hosted a coaching call with Dr Maffetone for our Personal Best Program. His closing thoughts were exactly around that topic:
“Have fun, it’s supposed to be fun. We see people running on the Highway and you just want to stop and ask if they need a ride home. They are not having fun.
Whether you do well in a race or not, it should be fun. If it’s not fun, we need to find a way to have fun, a better approach. For example different training partners, maybe train by yourself, or find a different sport.
When we are healthy, we tend to have more fun. It’s supposed to be fun.”
I absolutely agree and wanted to share it as a reminder for your training and racing journey.
