Now, let’s talk about something I think is even more important than training plans or workouts…
Belief.
As Dr. Phil Maffetone, a pioneer in endurance training, has said…
“Belief is the driving force behind everything. When you trust your process and preparation, you unlock potential you didn’t even know you had.”
Well, I couldn’t agree more!
It’s not about physical strength, endurance, or mobility…
(no, I’m not saying those things don’t matter at all)
But what matters more is trusting yourself, the process, and your journey – even when progress seems slow.
Here’s a powerful example from Daniel, a PB Program member:
Daniel ran his first marathon in 4 years, finishing in 4:16:07. But more importantly, he said it was the most confident and prepared he’s ever felt.
Before joining the PB Program, Daniel spent years trying to break 4:30 and felt stuck.
But after joining and believing in the process – he shattered his goal and even said he’s in better shape now at 50 than he was in his 40s.

Want to start building that belief? Try these:
- Break Down Your Goals: Break down your larger running goals into smaller, achievable milestones. These small wins stack up and help reinforce your belief.
- Reflect on Past Successes: Celebrate your past wins – no matter how small. They’ll remind you of what you’re capable of.
- Surround Yourself with Like-minded People: Join a community of people with the same vision/goals as you. Sometimes it’s just good to have someone who gets it.
- Use Positive Affirmations: Tell yourself, “I’m capable, I’m strong, I’ll succeed” daily – and reinforce your belief system.
Belief is where it all starts….
Trust in what you’re doing, and your own story might surprise you!
Cheers,
Floris Gierman
P.S. In my opinion, the #1 way to reinforce your belief is to surround yourself with people who “get it”… Runners who face the same challenges and celebrate the same wins.
Being in a community and sharing progress makes it so much easier to stay committed and build belief every step of the way. And that’s exactly what the PB program is all about. Check it out here!
