Hi there!
Recently I had a couple of podcast recording sessions that went hilariously off-script…
I sat down with Eric Floberg to record his incredible journey from a 3:50 to a 2:33 marathon. Mid-conversation, chaos erupted as his kids burst in – one throwing a mail package at his face, the other launching a toy bow and arrow his way! We both just lost it laughing. Any parents out there can probably relate to these perfectly imperfect moments.
Speaking of unexpected turns, last week I was in Boulder, Colorado, at Lawrence van Lingen’s mountain home to record with the triathlon GOAT Taylor Knibb and Lawrence himself. Just our luck – we got hit with a power outage!
But here’s the thing: what could have been a disaster turned into something even better than I’d planned. After my chat with Taylor, we had the most amazing impromptu conversation unfold on camera between Taylor and her movement coach Lawrence in the most honest, deep, authentic way. Taylor literally took over as host of The Extramilest Show to interview Lawrence.
You know, these situations of a Power Outage and interview interruptions used to really throw me off. Now? I laugh about them and I’ve learned to roll with the punches, seeing them as part of the adventure. Whether it’s training, racing, or just daily life, what truly matters isn’t what gets thrown our way – it’s how we choose to respond.
Next time your plans go sideways, try this: take a deep breath, look for the opportunity in the chaos, and remember that some of the best moments come from the unscripted parts of life. Often, what seems like an obstacle can lead to something even better than what we originally planned.
Can’t wait to share these new episodes with you all – they’re coming soon!
Cheers,
Floris Gierman
P.S. Recently I switched from running shorts to running tights. Super excited for the launch of The Sentinel tights by Path Projects. I was able to fit up to 20 gels and my phone in here, you know, in case you’re really hungry and go super far and long :) Available as Half Tight and Full Tight.
