My Creators Cooldown

By December 22, 2025No Comments

Recently I joined my friend Jeff Pelletier on his Creators’ Cooldown podcast, to turn the tables on me, for an honest conversation about the realities of building businesses, creating content, and avoiding burnout over the past decade.

We talked about the messy parts nobody shows you, like reprinting 1,000 book covers and rewrapping them in my living room at the last minute, working wild hours during the holidays and book launch, and the moments where you question everything. But also the breakthroughs that made it all worth it.

A few key themes:

How my company Path ProjectsThe Extramilest Show podcastPB Coaching Program and my book Running Breakthroughs all feed into each other as a flywheel. Why I spent 18 months waking up at 5am without telling anyone I was writing a book. The evolution from getting destroyed in the YouTube comments about Zone 2 training in 2013 to watching it go mainstream. And why I’m ready for a 2.0 version of the podcast that goes far beyond just running.

Some quotes from this conversation by me, Floris Gierman:

“For big overwhelming projects, cut them into small manageable tasks and work on them one step at a time”

“When everything went wrong with my book launch, I decided to treat it like a mental ultramarathon: surrender, laugh, and keep moving forward.”

“The money will fall in the right place if you show up and go the extra mile. Build real relationships. Don’t be so transactional with everything.”

“I’ve said what I want to say about low heart rate training. It’s time for the next chapter soon to evolve around breakthroughs in performance, health and life, flow states, digital minimalism, mental health, detox and much more…”

“Storytelling is where you truly build a brand. Paid ads stop when the money stops, authentic stories keep the flywheel turning forever.”

“You don’t have to kill yourself in workouts. Training can be enjoyable and you can still improve as an athlete.”

“Once your health is in the right place, your mindset, stress levels, nutrition, sleep, the running performance will follow.”
